Eva M. Doyle is a columnist, educator, and community activist. She is the author of the column "Eye On History." Her column began in The Buffalo Challenger in February 1979 and continues today in the Buffalo Criterion - the oldest black newspaper in Western New York. Mrs. Doyle has written thousands of articles on African and African American History during the past twenty-two years. She also is the author of six books. The titles include: Eye on History, Book 1; Buffalo's Black Community; Motivating Children To Write; Jambo: Let's Count; Celebrating Kwanzaain Buffalo; and Marcus Garvey: Read, Learn and Remember. Mrs. Doyle also created the Eye On History Newsletter for Families and the Eye On History series of t-shirts that feature drawings of outstanding African Americans.
As a teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools for the past twenty-six years, her goal has always been to integrate the correct history of African people into the school curriculum. As a result, Mrs. Doyle founded the African American Curriculum Resource Center at the Campus West School in 1994. This Center is the only one of its kind in the entire Buffalo School District. The Center services students, teachers, and the general community by providing a wide array of books, teacher guides, posters, videos, magazines, bibliographies, and general information about the contributions of African people to world civilization.
Mrs. Doyle has been a frequent guest on radio and television programs discussing the issues that surround the African American community, both locally and nationally. She continues to work for the full inclusion of African History into the school curriculum. She serves on a variety of school-based committees such as the Multicultural Educational Instructional Support Team (M.E.I.S.T. Team) and Project S.E.E.D. (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity). Mrs. Doyle has received over thirty-four awards for her work in the community including the Woman of Greatness Award, Life Community Center in Rochester; Black Achievers in Industry Award, 1490 Jefferson Enterprises; Media Award, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Certificate of Appreciation, Buffalo Board of Education; and Certificate of Appreciation from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
In 1997, Mrs. Doyle was selected as one of thirty-four outstanding teachers nationwide by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education to participate in a conference in Washington, D.C. on issues in education.
Mrs. Doyle is married to Romeo Muhammad and is the mother of three and the grandmother of seven children.
